Gymnastics
The Fox Valley Family YMCA has an extensive gymnastics program. The gymnastics facility at the Central Branch is the second largest in the United States. Cheerleading and Tumbling are also offered in a progressive, informational, and fun format.
Cheerleading Classes: Cheerleading classes are taught through various progressive levels.
Toddler Classes: For children 18 months to 3 years with a parent
Preschool Classes: Classes for 4 & 5 year olds
Tumbling: Beginner through intermediate levels offered. Boys only classes offered as well
Private Lessons: The YMCA staff also offer private lessons for individuals looking for additional training or who are trying to master a certain skill
Instruction Gymnastics Program Information
Viewing weeks are the first and last week of each session only. Please make sure all non-participants are seated in the bleachers. Children are not allowed to run around the gym; staff may ask disruptive children and families to leave. Advancement from each level may take anywhere from 3 months to 2 years, depending on the individual gymnast. The YMCA reserves the right to move gymnasts to the appropriate levels, combine classes, cancel classes, and change times during the course of the session.
Proper Attire:
* No tights, jewelry, especially earrings, watches, big/lose clothes, jeans, or pants. No zippers, belts, shorts with rivets or drawstrings.
* Hair must be tied back out of the face. Braided hair is allowed.
* Intermediate level and above must wear leotards to class. T-shirts and sweats may only be worn during warm-ups.
Instructional Classes are for children 6 years and up. Children progress through classes starting with Girls' Beginner I. Once children have progressed through the Instructional Classes they would graduate to our Gymnastics Team.
Team Gymnastics ~ The Fox Valley Flyers
The Fox Valley Flyers, our gymnastics team competes throughout Illinois against other YMCA teams and private clubs. Team gymnastics consist of levels 4-8 with over 50 girls. The Fox Valley Flyers are very successful bringing home many state and national awards. In 2009 alone, we brought home 1st Place State Level 4 all 3AA age divisions, 1st Place Level 5 Jr. AA, 1st place State Level 6AA, 1st Place State Champions Jr & Sr Level 4,5,6,7 and Super Team. The Flyers were also Level 4 and 5 AA National Champions.
