Dian Nielsen

I have been a Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer at the Fox Valley Family YMCA Central and West Branches for the past 9 years.  I currently teach three classes at West Branch: Total Body Strength Training, Joyful Joints Challenge, and Seniorcise.  I am available for Personal Trainings every day except Sunday beginning at 5:00am and working around my current client’s schedules.

A little bit about me…

I grew up in a family with 11 brothers and 4 sisters… yes… that’s 16 children!  Five of my brothers were born with the disease Spinal Muscle Atrophy, a form of Muscular Dystrophy that deteriorates the muscles in your body.  It was because of the disease, at age 16, that I first started to love fitness.  I felt that somehow I owed it to my brothers, who only had enough muscle strength to hold a cup to their mouth, to do what I could to help other people become fit.  I felt that I could help people become aware of what a beautiful gift our bodies are and how muscle plays such an important role in our everyday activities as well as our weight loss efforts.

Matt Stark
I received my personal training certification through the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA).  Within the next six months to a year I will also be certified through the American Council of Exercise (ACE). Along with Personal Training, I am currently attending college to become a registered dietitian with a master's degree in nutrition. Fitness and Nutrition play extremely large roles in my life and from the knowledge I have gained in both fields, I can contribute abundance of information on both which will be very beneficial to any potential client. I have included weight lifting and exercising into my daily routine for the past three years now and am interested in passing my knowledge and skills onto others so they too can better their life like I have.

As for clients, I enjoy training anyone.  Whether they are just starting a new life in fitness, or already fairly experienced.  I enjoy working with people and helping them obtain the results that they want.  The most rewarding part of being a personal trainer for me is being able to see the gain of confidence in clients when they reach their goals with my help.

In addition to being a personal trainer at both the Central and West Branches at the YMCA, I also am currently teaching the “Teen Strength” courses available for teens 14 and younger who are interested in using the wellness centers and lifting.

Jeanette Stewart
I got started with a career in fitness because I love the feeling I get from working out. My philosophy in regards to fitness is that everything should be done in moderation. I believe that we have to make lifestyle changes in order to stay healthy for a lifetime. I began thinking about my health after the birth of my first child. I lost over 50lbs by switching to a whole foods diet. No boxes of yellow and white pasta products in my pantry! I started by walking and playing with my kids at the park. Before long I was running and biking too. After a few years of working out on my own I hired a personal trainer. It was so motivational to have someone pushing me a little harder than I pushed myself. Having someone there to tell me I could do it made all the difference to me. I decided that I would love to help motivate other people to achieve their fitness goals. I became a personal trainer in 2000.

I am currently teaching Spin classes and BodyPump. I love when I see one of my clients who could barely walk up a flight of stairs power walking on the treadmill or strength training with confidence! I have a special interest in working with beginners or people who feel intimidated by working out because I know how scary it can be to get started.
