On April 23^rd, the Fox Valley Family YMCA Preschool Children put on a circus performance for their family and friends. The children enrolled in all of the pre-kindergarten sessions (Blue, Green, Purple, and Red Bear Classes) spent 3 weeks preparing for their performance. They were involved in everything from making props to putting on the show. For example, for the elephant act the children paper mached balloons and attached paper towel rolls for the trunks. Once dry the children then painted them gray and attached large elephant ears. The children also had to create invitations, posters, and a story which they then read to the audience about the Circus of the Stars.

Once each of the children decided on the parts they were interested they then needed to try out for their parts. They assisted in organizing the costumes and of course rehearsed - rehearsed - and rehearsed! The morning performance included 16 circus acts and was performed by the Blue and Red Bears. The afternoon performance included 17 circus acts and was performed by the Green and Purple Bears. During this unit, the children not only learned about what goes on behind the scenes of a circus and all the work that is involved, but also gained a tremendous amount of self-confidence and pride. Each year children enrolled in the pre-kindergarten sessions put on a performance for their families. It is one of the many events that the children remember for years to come.
