Music Lessons

Private piano, voice, guitar, flute, clarinet, drum lessons (and more!) can be taken at our YMCA. Some instruments are branch specific. Contact the Arts Director for scheduling.

Meet our Instructors

Krissy Olin, Arts Director

Piano and Voice Instructor

Krissy has been studying piano and voice since the age of 5. She has been in numerous choirs from the ages of 5 through college. She studied voice under Angela Persutti-Korbitz who has been a part of the Civic Opera Chorus, Grant Park Chorus, and the Chicago Symphony Chorus. Krissy has performed at numerous events including Northern Illinois University’s “Art for Life Showcase,” as well as many weddings. Krissy started the music program here at the Fox Valley Family YMCA in 2004 with her piano and voice lessons. Since becoming the Arts Director in 2005, Krissy has expanded the music department to include a large variety of instruments.

Kelly Asmussen

Flute and Clarinet Instructor

Kelly has been playing flute for 20 years. She attended high school in California for the musically gifted and went on to win the California State Solo Award. Kelly continued to play through college and was a part of many award winning concert and marching bands. She has taught lessons for many years and enjoys passing her love for music on to anyone who wants to learn.

Kristy Bruggemann

Piano and Voice

Kristy has been teaching piano and voice lessons at the Fox Valley Family YMCA since 2006. Kristy attended Waubonsee Community College where she studied voice and piano.

Tony Corbi

Guitar, Bass Guitar, and Drum Instructor

Tony has been teaching at the Fox Valley Family YMCA since 2007. He has been teaching lessons for over 7 years.

Sean Fitzpatrick

Piano, Voice, Guitar, Cello, and Percussion Instructor

Sean has been studying music since the age of 7. In high school he won the Illinois Music Educator Association’s (IMEA) Composition Award in 2001. In 2006 he was a member of the IMEA Jazz Honor Band. In 2005 and 2006 he won the ICHS Tenor Award. Sean was also a Grammy Camp attendant and scholarship recipient in 2006 and 2007.

Lacey Freeman

Flute and Trumpet Instructor

Lacey Freeman has been playing flute for 10 years and trumpet for 9 years. Lacey attended Waubonsee Community College where she earned her Associates Degree in Fine Arts. At Waubonsee she was an assistant to the music department and tutored Music Theory. Lacey has taught both trumpet and flute lessons. Lacey is currently attending Northern Illinois University where she is studying Music Education.

P. Scott Redmon

Piano, Voice, and Guitar Instructor

Scott has been playing and studying music for 35 years. For over ten years he has been teaching piano, voice, and guitar. Scott teaches a wide variety of styles with the emphasis on learning the technique of the students' instruments. His educational studies have been at the Berklee College of Music, University of Illinois, and Waubonsee Community College. Scott is also a composer and can teach Music Theory, Ear Training, and Song Writing.

Doug Reiners

French Horn and Trumpet Instructor

Doug has been studying music since the age of 10. He is a graduate of Sandwich High School. Doug attended Western Illinois University where he was a Music Education Major.
